梅雨の季節に美しく咲く、紫陽花。雨が降るからこそ、その色は美しさを変化させて季節を楽しませてくれる。
ぜひ、紫陽花の花を手に取って見て描いていただきたかった。私は前日の夜に裏山からアジサイを頂いてきて、準備した。しかし、アジサイは色が複雑ゆえに、水彩で描くのは面白みがないと私は思った。
ここは、皆さんの頭をフル回転させて、仕上げていただこうと、手順を考えた。
まず、アジサイの花の色合いを塊で描いていただく、これは実際の花を見ていただくことから始める。
次に、ひっかき絵で、花弁を描く。最後は、葉っぱを貼り絵していただく。この葉っぱは、数色の色紙だけでは陰影が付きにくいと思い、私が和紙に様々な緑の色を作って塗り作成したものも加えた。
手の込んだ制作過程だったが、皆さんは楽しんで何の躊躇もなく制作された、９０歳、すごいな。
Hydrangeas bloom beautifully during the rainy season. It is precisely because of the rain that their colours shift, allowing us to savour the changing seasons.
I very much wanted you to pick up a hydrangea flower, observe it, and draw it. I had gathered hydrangeas from the hillside behind my house the night before and prepared them. However, I felt that painting hydrangeas in watercolours would be rather dull, given their complex colours.
Here, I devised a process to get everyone’s minds working at full speed to complete the piece.
First, you would paint the colour tones of the hydrangea flowers in blocks. This would begin with observing the actual flowers.
Next, they would scratch-paint the petals. Finally, they would collage the leaves. I felt that just a few coloured papers wouldn’t create enough shading for these leaves, so I added some I had made myself by painting various shades of green onto Japanese paper.
It was a rather elaborate process, but everyone enjoyed it and worked without hesitation.
Ninety years old – amazing.
