にわとりは、まず写真をお見せした。突然「にわとり」を描きましょうと言われても戸惑うばかりだ。
この作品は、翌年の干支に由来する。「酉年」に向けて新年への思いを高めていただきたくて、テーマに選んだ。
９０歳を超えた方々は、新年にはいつも年賀状を用意されていただろう、干支は大事な絵柄になる。
白い鶏もいれば、華やかな色合いの雄鶏もいる。新しい年が来るとは、こころにも希望が満ちる。
First, I showed them a photograph of a chicken. If suddenly asked to draw a chicken, one would be at a loss.
This work originates from the following year’s Chinese zodiac sign. I chose it as a theme hoping to heighten anticipation for the New Year, the Year of the Rooster.
Those over ninety would have prepared New Year’s cards for the occasion; the zodiac animal is an important motif.
Some chickens are white, others are roosters in vibrant colours. The arrival of a new year fills the heart with hope.
