夏の海、夏休み、というイメージでテーマとしたが、海は知らないという方もいらした。また、海で遊んだこともなかったという方も。９０歳と言えば、当時で大正時代の後期か昭和時代の初期の方々だろう。
時代背景から考えても青春時代を戦争で過ごされた方々だ。そして、高度成長時代を支えてこられた方々。海は魚のいるところ、なのかもしれない。
The theme was inspired by images of summer seas and summer holidays, though some participants had never seen the sea. Others had never played by the sea either. At ninety years old, they would have lived through the late Taisho era or early Showa era.
Given the historical context, these were people whose youth was spent during the war. They were also the generation that underpinned Japan’s period of rapid economic growth. Perhaps for them, the sea is simply a place where fish dwell.
