このテーマは難しいと思っていたが、ぜひこの不思議な楽しさを味わっていただきたくて選んだ。なにが難しいかと言えば、形が決まっていないからだ。完成図も想像できない。でも描き進むうちに、色と形が唄いだす。
導入には工夫した。もったいぶって「今日は、」と話し始めたのだ。まず、何だろうと興味をもっていただかないと始まらないからだ。見たこともないものに、意味を見出せるのか、そこは皆さんの力を借りるしかない。
この変形色構図は、曲線が肝で、画用紙に目的もなく曲線を重ねて描いていただき、そこに直線もいれる。
そして、おもむろに出来た空間に好きな色を入れていただくのだ。初め半信半疑だった方々が、ふと面白いと気づく。
そこからは、どんどん色を入れて、ご自分のワールドを作っていく。誰にでもできて、誰にでもできない世界。
I thought this theme would be difficult, but I chose it because I really wanted you to experience this strange delight. What makes it difficult is that the form isn’t fixed. You can’t even imagine the finished picture. But as you keep drawing, the colours and shapes begin to sing.
I put some thought into the introduction. I started off coyly with, ‘Today, we’re going to…’ Because it simply wouldn’t work unless you were first intrigued by what it might be. Could you find meaning in something you’d never seen before? That’s where I had to rely on your abilities.
This deformed colour composition hinges on curves. Participants aimlessly layer curves onto the paper, then introduce straight lines.
Then, they leisurely fill the emerging spaces with their chosen colours. Those initially sceptical suddenly realise it’s rather fun.
From there, they pour in more and more colour, building their own world. A world anyone can create, yet no one can replicate.
